Seasonal Allergy Relief with Acupuncture

Spring has officially arrived and many of you are already feeling the effects of seasonal allergies. In the realm of traditional treatments, a multitude of options exist, ranging from allergy shots to antihistamines, nasal sprays, and eye drops. However, these remedies may not always yield the desired results and can come with unwanted side effects. Looking for an alternative to the often drowsy-inducing allergy medication? Read on!

Some of the most frequently encountered allergens include pet hair, dust mites, ragweed, pollen, specific foods, and certain chemical products. Individuals with allergies may experience a variety of symptoms, such as nasal congestion, sneezing, an itchy or runny nose, throat irritation, and red, itchy eyes. In certain instances, rashes, sinusitis, or headaches may also manifest.

Histamine, the chemical that produces symptoms in response to allergens, circulates in our body all the time. Although this is a necessary neurotransmitter to fight against bacteria and other toxins, when we are exposed to large amounts of allergens and are hit with a big dose of histamine, it can greatly interfere with many aspects of our lives.

The good news is that Acupuncture has proven to be effective when it comes to allergies, and with minimal side effects. Acupuncture can build and boost the immune system, called “Wei Qi” (WAY-CHEE) in Chinese Medicine, which is associated with the Lungs. When these vital systems are strong, the inflammatory response in your body is decreased.

The other benefit of regular Acupuncture sessions is increased blood flow and circulation which also means increased immunity. That means that oxygen and all the anti-inflammatory workers can get to every nook in your body and do their job.

Here are a few more benefits of Acupuncture and how it can improve your seasonal allergies:

Symptom Relief: Acupuncture can help relieve symptoms associated with spring allergies, such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and bloodshot eyes. Some studies suggest that acupuncture can reduce the severity and frequency of these symptoms.

Anti-inflammatory Effects: Allergies are inflammatory responses triggered by the immune system. Acupuncture can help regulate the body's inflammatory response, potentially reducing the inflammation associated with allergies.

Balanced Immune Response: Acupuncture is known to affect the immune system and regulate the immune system, which can help reduce the body's sensitivity to allergens.

Reduce Stress: Stress can make allergy symptoms worse. Acupuncture sessions are often relaxing; most people report feeling calmer and more balanced after a treatment. By lowering stress levels, acupuncture can indirectly relieve allergy symptoms.

In our Acupuncture sessions, we will also look at what foods can help and hinder your immunity (sugar and dairy…. I’m looking at you) and what supplements can reduce your allergy symptoms.

If you suffer from seasonal allergies the time to start building your immunity muscles is NOW.

I look forward to supporting you! Chris White LAc.
